Flatbush Community Proudly Welcomes New Flatbush Kollel Network
The Light of Torah shines brightly in Flatbush with the inauguration of groundbreaking Flatbush Kollel Network.
A large group of dedicated Kollel Yungerleit are eagerly relocating to Flatbush with a lofty goal: to build on the strong foundation of Yiddishkeit already established in our longstanding Kehilah and elevate our communal standing as an undisputed Makom Torah.
The Flatbush Kollel Network is the brainchild of local Rabbonim and Askonim who recognize how the establishment of a robust Kollel network in Flatbush will plant the seeds for blossoming Torah growth for decades to come. Jews of all backgrounds will be impacted and the presence of hundreds of soon-tobe-arriving Kollel families will positively inspire the next generation of Flatbush families.
“Just walking by a Kollel at any time of the day and hearing the sweet sound of Torah reverberating throughout the street, it speaks to a person’s Neshama,” adds Mr. Binyomin Koval. “This is a setting where the Torah is presented as alive. Think about how your children will react when encountering this on a daily basis. Is there really a better way to instill the importance of Limud HaTorah than for our impressionable youngsters to see groups of Yungerleit walking down Bedford Avenue or Nostrand Avenue, while enthusiastically discussing a complicated Gemara? This captivating sight will enrich and strengthen us all.”
Chazal famously states how the Aron Kodesh described in Tanach actually carried itself. This alludes to the fact that our task is to grab hold of the Torah and cling to those who learn it — and it will carry us through life. The Flatbush Kollel Network represents pure Torah learning that will benefit every local individual … and have a lasting impact on the greater Flatbush community.
GROWING IN NUMBERS, GROWING IN TORAH: THE VIBRANT VISION REVEALED.
Providing hundreds of kollel yungerliet with opportunity to develop into accomplished torah scholars inside Flatbush
“We view the Flatbush Kollel Network as a spiritual incubator for launching new Kollel sites across the entire Flatbush community”, states Mr. Refoel Weiss. “There are currently three full-time Kollelim that we’ve successfully established and the Kol Torah is tremendous. The majority of these Kollel locations are based inside existing Batei Medrashim, ensuring the doors remain open all day, and creating an inspiring environment for adults and children alike to grow in Yiddishkeit.
The hand-picked groups of Kollel members — who have recently moved to Flatbush from Lakewood, Monsey, and Eretz Yisrael — start each day by carefully reviewing a Sugya from the Gemara. Once a basic understanding has been grasped, they begin plumbing the depths of Talmud, learning through the Rishonim, Teshuva Seforim, Acharonim, and all the way to contemporary Poskim, to truly bring each Sugya to life.
Special community wide shiurim and events are in the planning phases, and the warm Kollel environment is designed to encourage Flatbush residents to both participate and appreciate the many advantages offered.
“As of now, we plan to open a total of four separate Kollel locations — and settle over 100 new Kollel families in Flatbush — over the next three years,’’ adds Mr. Ralph Herzka. “This is an unprecedented initiative designed to unite us, and redefi ne the essence of Flatbush, as we proudly join to honor and glorify Torah study.”
